Adamson University and National University (NU) found themselves tied with perennial contender De La Salle in first place after two rounds of men’s play in UAAP Season 76 chess over the weekend at the De La Salle Enrique Razon Sports Center.
The Green Woodpushers, who placed third last season, opened their campaign with identical 3-1 victories over defending champion University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Ateneo for six points.
The Soaring Falcons, the season hosts, made an early statement by beating University of the Philippines (UP) and former titlist Far Eastern University (FEU) on 3-1 scores to also collect six points.
Not to be outdone, the Bulldogs hacked out 3-1 victories over the Blue Eagles and the Growling Tigers for a six-point output after two rounds.
In women’s play, four-peat seeking De La Salle grabbed the early lead by trouncing FEU, 3-1, and Adamson, 3-1, to collect six points. UST is in second place with 5.5 points, followed by NU with five points in third place.
