Rain or Shine dealt Barako Bull its first defeat while San Mig Coffee finally barged into the win column last night in the PLDT MyDSL PBA Philippine Cup last night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Elasto Painters got contributions from almost everyone to beat the Energy Cola, 91-83, while rookie Ian Sangalang scored eight of his 14 points in the second overtime as the Mixers defeated Air21, 92-83.

Five players scored in double figures with TY Tang scoring 14 points and rookie Jeric Teng adding 10 as Rain or Shine gained solo third spot at 3-1.

Also shining for Rain or Shine was JR Quinahan, who produced 13 points and nine rebounds, while Paul Lee scattered 10 points, including a tough drive at crunch time that gave the team the cushion they needed.

Barako Bull thus slipped into a tie for fourth with defending champion Talk N’ Text at 2-1.

The 6-foot-7 Sangalang, the No. 2 overall pick, capitalized on Express center Asi Taulava’s sixth-and-final foul by scoring six points in a telling 8-0 run that made it 87-79 with 2:07 left in the second overtime.

After Air21 broke the drought by scoring a basket on the next play, Sangalang countered with a jumper for an 89-81 lead which huge enough to help San Mig end a 0-3 start in the season-opening conference.

San Mig lost its first three assignments to Barangay Ginebra (86-69), Alaska (84-80) and Petron Blaze (91-78).

“We just needed the win, that’s the bottom line. We don’t care whether it’s an ugly win, or a beautiful win. We’ll take any win,” said San Mig coach Tim Cone. “When you are desperate, you will take any win. We just need to try to get ourselves going.”
