Sparks blank foes, 33-0

The Loyola Meralco Sparks won perhaps the most lopsided match in the history of the United Football League (UFL) Cup after completing a 33-0 massacre of guest team Blue Guards FC Wednesday night at the Emperador Stadium in McKinley Hill.

Phil Younghusband scored eight goals, Chad Gould had seven and Matt Hartmann hit the back of the net five times as the Sparks led 10-0 in the first 20 minutes, 15-0 at the half and 26-0 with 15 minutes before injury time.

While the victory kept Loyola in a tie for first place with Green Archers United in Group E with nine points each, it proved to be embarrassing defeat for Blue Guards, a club composed of several players with an age of at least 40 years old.

Blue Guards, one of three clubs invited to the UFL’s annual Cup competition, completed its campaign with no victories in four matches where it conceded 71 goals.

Loyola’s victory was a perfect workout heading into its match with Green Archers next month with the winner taking the top spot in the group.

In the other match, Green Archers blanked Navy, 5-0, behind two goals from Tating Pasilan.

Pasilan scored in the 23rd and 30th to keep his club stay on pace with the Sparks.

Navy stayed with three points after three matches to remain tied for third with Dolphins United in the group.
