Competitions in 13 sports go full blast today as the 26th Milo Little Olympics National Capital Region leg fires off in different venues with the Marikina Sports Complex as the main hub of the five days competition with Mayor Del de Guzman as guest of honor.
More than 30,000 spectators are expected to grace the opening ceremony which features more than 5,000 elementary and secondary athletes from public and private schools.
At stake in the grassroots competition are medals in athletics, badminton, chess, football, gymnastics, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, sepak takraw, and scrabble.
“Expect more rising stars to surface in the competition because all the participating athletes are out to prove their worth in their respective pet events,” said Milo Sports Executive Andrew Neri.
The Visayas leg concluded recently at the Cebu Sports Complex where University of San Carlos captured both the elementary and second titles.
After Marikina, hostilities go to Baguio on Sept. 6-8 for the Luzon leg where athletes from Northern Luzon, Central Luzon and Cordillera Administrative Region are seeing action.
All the winners from the elimination legs will receive all-expense-paid trips to Cebu for the National finals on Oct. 25-27, apart from R40,000, R20,000 and P10,000 that will be given to the first three places in both elementary and secondary levels. (Clyde Mariano)
